Pablo Sandoval’s weight was an issue when he was with San Francisco and it’s dominated the headlines in Boston since he signed a 5-year, $95 million deal with the Red Sox last offseason. After catching flak for showing up to spring training looking overweight, Sandoval struggled in Grapefruit League play, lost his starting job to a rookie and then hit the disabled list with a season-ending shoulder injury after just seven plate appearances.
Sandoval is now in the process of working his way back to full strength and get back to the big leagues and he joined his Red Sox teammates Wednesday in Florida for a series with the Rays. Sandoval is not yet ready to play but he started doing defensive drills and showed off a new and improved physique. He’s officially down 22 pounds, according to WEEI Red Sox reporter Rob Bradford.

Sandoval has reportedly shed the weight by working out at Boston’s spring training facility in Fort Myers, Florida six days a week for 7 hours a day. He’s also biking around 10 miles a day.
