Golf’s biggest celebrity, Tiger Woods, was supposed to make his long anticipated return this week at the Safeway Open in Napa.
Those plans have changed.
Golf Digest is reporting Woods is stepping away from the tournament because of performance related issues, not an injury.
Woods had two back surgeries a year ago, and according to close friend Notah Begay III, Woods’ short game isn’t where he wants it to be.
Woods and Steph Curry were supposed to play together on Wednesday for a pro-am event at the Safeway Open. Woods last played in a tournament in August of 2015, at the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina.
Ticket sales for the Safeway Open had reportedly doubled from a year ago.
