The Warriors’ new-look bench took a hit in the first half Friday against the Pelicans.
Rookie guard Patrick McCaw sprained his left ankle and will not return. Sprained ankles are a day-to-day, week-to-week injury, depending on the severity.
After not seeing much playing time against the Spurs, McCaw came off the bench in the first quarter — a role Ian Clark had filled on Tuesday night. He hit his only shot, a three-pointer, and played 10 minutes.
Here’s where this gets interesting: Shaun Livingston and Clark are now the only healthy backup guards for the Warriors. Kerr really might have to start staggering the lineups even further than he has. Interestingly, Kevin Durant was the first player sent to the bench in the first quarter for Andre Iguodala.
In fact, the Warriors might not be able to survive with just one backup guard. James Michael McAdoo has been the inactive player for the Warriors and Bob Myers could make a transaction if McCaw’s sprain will keep him out a few weeks.
McCaw joins the Warriors’s other first round draft pick, Damian Jones (pectoral), on the injury list.
