The Los Angeles Lakers stunned the basketball world on Tuesday by firing longtime GM Mitch Kupchack and executive of basketball operations Jim Buss.

Owner Jeanie Buss replaced Kupchack and her brother with Magic Johnson and the Hall of Famer may hire former agent Rich Pelinka as the next GM.

The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that current Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Myers was targeted by the Lakers.

“After Myers signed a recent contract extension, it became clear to Lakers brass that it would be unable to lure Myers,” wrote Wojnarowski.

Myers was promoted in September from GM to president of basketball operations. In reports the surfaced in July, Myers was also considered to conductor who ultimately got Kevin Durant to leave OKC for Golden State.

Myers is from Northern California but attended UCLA from 1993-97.
