Raiders to sign pass-catching tight end Jared Cook [report]

The Oakland Raiders are about to have a solid pass-catching tight end for the first time in the young career of quarterback Derek Carr as they are on the verge of signing former Packer Jared Cook, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Cook had a down year for most of last season, including missing six games due to injury. In the three seasons prior with the St. Louis Rams in 2013, ’14 and ’15, Cook played all 16 games, recording 51, 52 and 39 receptions respectively, recording a career high five touchdowns in 2013.

The Raiders actually received about the same contribution from their top tight end target, Clive Walford, who caught 33 balls on 52 targets for 359 yards while hauling in three scores. Oakland currently has five tight ends on the books for next season. Cook’s signing will most likely mean unrestricted free agent Mychael Rivera will now be allowed to walk.
