Klay Thompson responds to report of Cavaliers interest in possible trade

Shockwaves were sent through the NBA world in regards to the trade that never happened.

On Wednesday, ESPN’s Marc Spears reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers contacted the Warriors to inquire about trading Kyrie Irving for Klay Thompson.

The deal, of course, never went through. On Tuesday, Cleveland traded Irving to the Boston Celtics in exchange a package headlined by Isaiah Thomas and the Brooklyn Nets 2018 first round pick.

As for the Cavaliers pursuit of Thompson? A bunch of nothing, according to Spears, who reported that the Warriors were uninterested in swapping stars with Cleveland.

Thompson responded to the Klay-for-Kyrie rumors on Wednesday.

The two-time champion is in no rush to leave Golden State. Unlike Irving, Thompson doesn’t seem to mind not being the central contributor in the Warriors’ offense.

Thompson added how the report signifies how other teams want him to be a part of their organizations. Wednesday’s report is not the first time – and probably not the last – that Thompson’s name has been tossed around in trade rumors. Prior to the 2014-15 season, Golden State reportedly had interest in trading Thompson for then Minnesota Timberwolve Kevin Love.

Things might get interesting in 2019, when Thompson hits the free agent market. But at the present, the Warriors are in no rush to deal its shooting guard anytime soon.
