Kelby Tomlinson hits first home run in 2017 off Clayton Kershaw

SAN FRANCISCO–Kelby Tomlinson doesn’t hit home runs.

Clayton Kershaw doesn’t give up many, either.

Tomlinson doesn’t exactly have a good track record against the Dodgers’ ace, but on Tuesday night, he found himself in the lineup, and in his first at-bat, he accomplished the improbable. In the bottom of the third inning, the Giants’ shortstop lifted a 2-0 fastball from Kershaw high in the air to left, and it had just enough juice to sail over the head of Curtis Granderson and into the bleacher seats.

It didn’t matter that Tomlinson entered the at-bat 0-for-14 in his career with six strikeouts against Kershaw. Or that Kershaw entered his start on Tuesday with a 1.29 career ERA in 20 starts at AT&T Park. All that mattered is that the Dodgers are in the midst of an 11-game losing streak, and when that’s the case, crazy, bizarre things happen.

And on Tuesday night, a bizarre thing happened with Tomlinson and Kershaw.
