It’s been a busy afternoon down in Santa Clara.
Just 15 minutes after reports surfaced indicating that San Francisco signed 12th year veteran defensive tackle Tony McDaniel, NFL insider Adam Caplan reported that the 49ers also signed defensive tackle Leger Douzable.

Douzable initially signed with San Francisco this offseason, but after spending the preseason attempting to earn a roster spot with the 49ers, Douzable was cut. Douzable has not played in an NFL game this season, but with Arik Armstead likely heading to the 49ers’ injured reserve list, San Francisco is attempting to create depth along its defensive front.
Douzable is a 6-foot-4, 305-pound tackle with experience playing defensive end. Though McDaniel is the taller player of the 49ers’ two signings, Douzable appears to be the more versatile defender, and because he already knows coordinator Robert Saleh’s system, he could have the first crack at earning playing time.
With Armstead likely headed to injured reserve, San Francisco will now need to create an additional roster spot in order to accommodate the signings of McDaniel and Douzable.
