Datone Jones knows what life is like in the NFC North.
That’s because he’s played for three of the division’s four teams.
But now, Jones is heading back west as he signed with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday evening, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

Jones was a first round draft choice of the Green Bay Packers in 2016 when he was selected 26th overall, and he spent the first four years of his career with the franchise. After signing with the Minnesota Vikings this offseason, Jones was placed on injured reserve at the end of training camp. Six days later, he was released.
Jones was unsigned for a month, but on October 11, he inked a deal with the Detroit Lions. Seven days after he signed though, Jones was released.
Now, Jones will join a San Francisco 49ers squad with hopes of providing the team with a presence as an edge rusher. Jones has just 9.0 career sacks over four-plus seasons in the league, but with Arik Armstead on injured reserve, the 49ers are looking for healthy options to fill the void up front.
A product of UCLA, Jones was named second-team All-Conference as a senior.
