Despite some hiccups, the Warriors have officially paid the city of Oakland for their 2017 NBA Championship Parade, honoring a promise made by owner Joe Lacob in June, according to the Bay Area News Group.
The check for $786,988.81 was deposited to the Oakland Treasury Department on Wednesday. The Bay Area News Group obtained a copy of the check that can be seen below.
Things between the Warriors and Oakland got a little awkward after Lacob’s initial promise, when the city’s invoice was more than double their original estimate, and included a bizarre $244,000 charge for the 2015 parade. The city later called that charge a “misunderstanding,” but stood firm on the inflated bill, claiming that the increased costs came after terrorist attacks prompted a heavier security presence.
Ultimately the Warriors begrudgingly agreed to pay the amount.
“We have made this decision despite our disappointment with the process and the large disparity between the two estimates,” the team said at the time.
