For the first time this season, the Golden State Warriors will play without Jordan Bell. Despite his rookie success–in five games, Bell compiled 12 field goals, two steals and three blocks in 40 minutes–Steve Kerr reasoned that a one-game deactivation is the best for the young center.
“Early in the season we’re establishing that we’re going to play everybody,” Kerr said. “Some guys are guaranteed minutes every night, some guys aren’t. Jordon’s played really well for us, but he’s got a lot to learn. I thought tonight would be a good night for him to watch. He’s going to sit with Chris DeMarco behind the bench and watch the game and observe. He’ll be active for next game.”
In his place, JaVale McGee will take over as center against the Washington Wizards. McGee was inactive in the Warriors’ against the Raptors on Wednesday and Kerr wants to keep the revolving door of his rotation spinning.
“Well I mean he’s rookie, he’s played every game, he’s done a good job for us. It’s not like I’m trying to teach him a lesson or anything, but it’s more there’s a lot to this game. There’s a lot of nuance to the NBA game and a guy in his position has a lot to learn. I think it’s a good night for him just to observe and I wanted to get JaVale back out there. It just seemed like the right night.”
