Giants’ general manager Bobby Evans has made his first roster move of the offseason.
On Monday afternoon, Evans and the Giants claimed infielder Michah Johnson off of waivers from the Cincinnati Reds, who added Johnson to their roster just four days ago. Johnson spent part of the 2017 season with the Atlanta Braves, as he recorded two hits in 10 at-bats for the Braves in 18 games.
Johnson is the second infielder San Francisco has added to its 40-man roster in the past two months, as Evans placed a claim on Engelb Vielma on September 15.
Johnson was originally drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 9th round of the 2012 MLB Draft out of Indiana, and he made his Major League debut with the club in 2015. Johnson spent time with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016, before spending time with three different levels of the Atlanta Braves organization this season.
The 26-year-old is primarily a second baseman, but also has limited experience playing the outfield.
