Three Giants’ prospects named to Fall Stars roster

The San Francisco Giants will have three prospects compete in the Arizona Fall League’s annual Fall-Star game on Saturday.

Catcher Aramis Garcia, outfielder Chris Shaw and right-handed relief pitcher Tyler Cyr will all don jerseys for the East roster of the Fall-Star game as the league’s top prospects square off against each other in a contest that will be televised on MLB Network.

The Arizona Fall League is the premier domestic Winter Ball League and annually features many of baseball’s top prospects. The Fall-Star game does not traditionally recognize the league’s top performers, but instead allows Major League franchises to hand-select prospects to play in a competitive atmosphere.

Shaw is considered one of the top prospects in the Giants’ organization, and after a successful first half of the year with AA, he found his way to the big league doorstep in 2017. Cyr and Garcia each finished the season with the Giants’ AA-affiliate the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

Shaw has struggled in the Fall League thus far, recording just three hits in 19 at-bats. However, the Boston College product and 2015 first round draft pick is reportedly dealing with a sore shoulder, which could be impacting his performance. It’s unclear if he’ll be available to play in Saturday’s game.

Cyr was a surprise addition to the Fall League, and after a strong season in AA, the Fremont, California native has struggled in four appearances with the Scottsdale Scorpions. In 4.0 innings pitched, Cyr has allowed three runs while recording two walks and one strikeout.

Garcia has been the most consistent performer of the trio, recording a .296 batting average while adding a home run and five RBIs.

Saturday’s Fall-Star game will start at 5 p.m. PT.
