Moments before the start of Game 7 of the World Series, Fox pregame show analyst Keith Hernandez made a questionable remark that appeared to be a reference to San Francisco’s gay community.

Fellow analyst David Ortiz joked about Dodgers’ outfielder Yasiel Puig’s ritual of licking his bat, and when he did so, he motioned toward Hernandez as if to lick him. Hernandez pulled away and laughed, saying, “I’m not from San Francisco, bro.”

Hernandez’s words immediately came under fire on social media, and regardless of Hernandez’s intent, he clearly upset a significant portion of Fox’s audience. Making matters more controversial was the response of his fellow analysts as some questioned whether or not they should have realized it was wrong and immediately spoken out against it.

Regardless of whichever side of the argument you lie, it’s likely we’ll hear a statement at least acknowledging the possibility that these comments may have been offensive.
