It’s safe to say Warriors head coach Steve Kerr thinks highly of Gregg Popovich. Kerr won two titles playing under Popovich as a member of the Spurs from 1998-2001 and 2002-2003, and has cited him along with Phil Jackson, as one of his most important mentors and teachers.
But Kerr went a step further on Wednesday, saying that if Popovich, who like Kerr has been extremely outspoken on political and social issues for the past year, ran for President, he’d have Kerr’s vote.
“I truly would vote for Pop. He would make a great president,” Kerr said. “All jokes aside. I would vote for him.”
Why does he feel Pop would make a good Commander-In-Chief?
“Honesty and integrity,” Kerr said. “Those would be two really key components for any person that wants to become president. Honesty and integrity would be fantastic to see. He would provide that.
“We’ve implemented some of the things Pop has done over the years in Golden State,” Kerr said. “More than anything, I value him as a great friend and somebody I admire.”
Stephen Curry echoed Kerr’s sentiment.
“He’s great for the NBA and would be even better for the country, probably,” Curry said.
Kerr, Curry and Popovich have been highly critical of the remarks and actions of President Donald Trump. Trump “dis-invited” the Warriors and Kerr from the White House before the start of the season, despite the team claiming they were never officially invited.
