Of all the people to throw shade at the San Francisco Giants, the last person you’d expect to do so would be Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek.
Yet that’s exactly what happened on Tuesday night’s episode, albeit in light-hearted fashion, after contestant Tim Aten shared that following his previous appearance on the show, he had received support from numerous people on the internet, including a current member of the Giants.
“One of them was from Hunter Pence, World Series champion,” Aten said.
Trebek without missing a beat clarified.
“For the Giants? Not this year.”
The comment elicited both “ooos” and laughter from the audience.
Jeopardy! is filmed in Southern California and Trebek has been seen attending games at Dodger Stadium multiple times, so it’s possible the Canadian transplant’s clap-back stems from an allegiance to the World Series runner-ups.
