Steve Kerr anticipates ‘huge ovation’ for James Michael McAdoo’s return

OAKLAND–James Michael McAdoo won’t spend the entire season with the Philadelphia 76ers.

But he did travel across the country for the 76ers’ Saturday evening showdown with his former team, the Golden State Warriors. And because McAdoo will be on the bench on Saturday, the Warriors will have an opportunity to hold a mini-ring ceremony for the fourth-year power forward.

After spending the first three seasons of his career with Golden State, McAdoo became a free agent this summer and signed a two-way contract with Philadelphia. McAdoo’s two-way deal means he can spend a maximum of 45 days with the 76ers, and he’ll spend the rest of the season with Philadelphia’s G-League affiliate, the Delaware 87ers.

Nevertheless, 76ers’ head coach Brent Brown ensured that McAdoo would be able to travel to Oracle Arena to receive his second NBA Championship ring, and on Saturday evening, Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr said he anticipates Oracle Arena to offer McAdoo a warm welcome.

“For sure, we’ve already been texting this morning. I’m thrilled that he’s here,” Kerr said. “I thought it was a great gesture by the Sixers to make sure he’s here and I know he’ll get a huge ovation from the crowd tonight, he deserves it.”

McAdoo played in 54 games for the Warriors during the 2016-2017 regular season, averaging 2.8 points per game and 1.7 rebounds per game.
