It was reported before the offseason began that the Los Angeles Dodgers would be the preferred trade destination for NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton, and that the only thing stopping a potential deal would be LA not wanting any part of the slugger’s $295 million salary.
Apparently there is truth to the first half of that, as Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported Monday that Stanton has told the Marlins he would accept a trade to LA, and that many clubs believe he is reluctant to go elsewhere until he knows where the Dodgers stand.
Sources: Giancarlo Stanton’s camp has given #Marlins a list of teams to which he would accept trades. #Dodgers are among them. To this point, Stanton has not formally rejected any trades. @MLB @MLBNetwork

Bob Nightengale reported a month ago that while Stanton, a Southern California native, would prefer to go to the Dodgers if the Marlins were set on trading him, the Giants were the favorites by default as Los Angeles is looking to cut salary. A report on Nov. 14 by Mark Feinsand disputed that, saying the Dodgers are indeed in the mix for Stanton.
Six days later, the Giants made an official offer for Stanton, asking for the outfielder and 2B Dee Gordon in exchange for Joe Panik, Tyler Beede and Chris Shaw.
