Former Giants’ pitcher Yusmeiro Petit agrees to two-year deal with A’s [report]

Yusmeiro Petit is coming back to the Bay Area.

This time, though, he’ll be a member of the Oakland A’s.

On Wednesday evening, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that Petit and the A’s reached a two-year agreement that will bring the versatile right-handed reliever back up to Northern California. According to Rosenthal, the A’s will pay Petit $10 million over the next two seasons, with a club option for the 2020 campaign.

The 33-year-old Petit excelled last season with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, posting a 2.76 earned run average in 60 appearances, 59 of which came out of the bullpen.

Petit won two World Series pitching for the San Francisco Giants, earning rings in 2012 and 2014 while establishing himself as a favorite of manager Bruce Bochy. In 2013, Petit came within one out of throwing a perfect game, as an Eric Chavez single that fell just in front of a diving Hunter Pence in right field broke up his bid to join the history books.

After a bounce back season with the Angels, Petit was considered one of the more intriguing options on the free agent market this offseason, and a potential fit to return to San Francisco to provide bullpen help. Instead, he’ll join an Oakland organization also looking to rebound from a last-place finish, and attempt to build off of the best season of his career.
