Marlins have agreed to general framework of Stanton trades with Giants, Cardinals [report]

It could be now, or it could be never.

The San Francisco Giants are awaiting word on whether 2017 National League MVP Giancarlo Stanton would accept a trade from the Miami Marlins, but if he gives the green-light, it appears as though a deal could be worked out quickly.

According to MLB Network reporter Jon Morosi, the Marlins have agreed to the general framework of deals involving Stanton with both the San Francisco Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Morosi reported Sunday that the Marlins are awaiting to hear from Stanton about whether he would be willing to waive his full no-trade clause to play for either franchise. According to several reporters, the Los Angeles Dodgers are Stanton’s preferred destination, but the Dodgers have not expressed significant interest in taking on a large chunk of the remaining $295 million Stanton is owed over the next 10 years.

After hitting 59 home runs and driving in 132 runs in 2017, Stanton emerged as the game’s premier power hitter, and could be the cure the Giants are looking to find after the team finished with a 64-98 record this season.

While it’s unclear who San Francisco would send to Miami in exchange for Stanton, Miami Herald reporter Clark Spencer said earlier this week that the Marlins have narrowed their focus to four Giants’ prospects, including 2017 first round pick Heliot Ramos and 2014 first round draft choice Tyler Beede.
