Major League Baseball announced Friday that San Francisco Giants’ pitching prospect Drew Bostic has been suspended 50 games for a violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment program.
Bostic, who goes by his middle name Alex, was one of three Minor League players suspended on Friday, joining Angels’ prospect Keith Grieshaber and Marlins’ pitching prospect Scott Squier. Major League Baseball announced that Bostic was suspended for testing positive for Ritalinic Acid, which is a banned stimulant.
Bostic was a 10th round pick by the Giants out of Clemson in 2016, but has struggled at each Minor League level he’s played at. In 2017, Bostic appeared in games with Low-A Augusta and short-season Salem-Keiser, and allowed 38 hits and 35 walks in just 38.0 innings pitched across two levels.
The left-hander is not the only Giants’ pitching prospect to be suspended in 2017, as Sacramento River Cats right-hander Joan Gregorio also received a 50-game suspension for a first time violation of the Drug Prevention and Treatment program.
