SANTA CLARA – Cornerback Akhello Witherspoon overcame his sprained medial collateral ligament in the last game and will likely play against the Titans at Levi’s. Witherspoon was listed as “questionable” all week. Witherspoon will be on the active roster. Fellow cornerback Greg Maybin, who strained his calf in the game last week replacing for Witherspoon, won’t play.
Fearing that Witherspoon or Maybin might not be healthy, the 49ers signed Tyvis Powell a big cornerback from Ohio State; he’s 6-3, 211 pounds and has the benefit of some Seahawks knowledge, the team he was with last.
Powell will also be active.
Also for the second week in a row, outside linebacker Aaron Lynch will be active. Lynch after being a healthy scratch for three straight games, will play again after recovering a fumble and pressuring the quarterback in Houston. The 49ers have their pass-rush group today with Lynch and Tank Carradine active.
Meanwhile run-stoppers D.J. Jones and Ronald Blair are inactive.
