Klay Thompson is in his seventh season playing for the Warriors. He has professed his love for his team and his adopted home of Oakland specifically, and the Bay Area in general, multiple times.
However, though Klay has now lived in the Bay for almost seven years, he was born in Los Angeles, and spent much of his adolescence in Southern California.
Thus, Klay very much enjoyed the opportunity to soak in the All-Star experience in his hometown, as well as with his family and friends.
“Thank God for pictures and stuff, because it goes by so fast while you’re in it,” Thompson said, according to Melissa Rohlin of the San Jose Mercury News. “Now I’m going to look back at this weekend, some of the best times of my life if you think about it. It was awesome and it was so cool to play here at Staples. Hopefully not the last time.”
Klay birth’s in Los Angeles coincided with his father Mychal’s tenure with the Lakers. After Mychal’s retirement from professional basketball, the Thompson family, including 2-year-old Klay, moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon.
They returned to Southern California when Klay was 14. Klay later went on to star for Santa Margarita Catholic High in Orange County before attending Washington State and later being drafted by the Warriors.
Klay added that despite not being able to get some much-needed rest during the weekend portion of the break, the experience was worth it.
“I hope to do this at least a few more times,” Thompson said. “It’s worth having no break to be here. It’s pretty special.”
