Richard Sherman defends decision to join 49ers via Twitter

Richard Sherman has joined the 49ers and some Seattle Seahawks fans don’t seem to be taking it too well.

Once public enemy number one in San Francisco during the Harbaugh era, Sherman signed a three-year deal with the 49ers over the weekend, shortly after he was released by Seattle after seven years with the organization. Recovering from an Achilles tendon injury sustained last season, Seattle elected to cut Sherman instead of paying him $13 million next season.

Even though it was the Seahawks who released Sherman, some fans aren’t taking the news very well.

On Monday, Sherman took to Twitter to defend his decision, reminding people that it wasn’t his choice to leave.

“Instead of getting upset with me for going to a new team how about you get upset with the people who forced me to go,” Sherman wrote. “If one job fires you and another job offers you a great position I highly doubt most ppl would go back to the old job for a lot less money.”

Sherman’s deal is worth $27.1 million if he is retained all three years by San Francisco.
