LOS ANGELES — Before the San Francisco Giants took the field for their second of four games against the Los Angeles Dodgers on March 30, Jeff Samardzija was seen throwing along the right field foul line.
Although there’s still no word on when Samardzija will return to the mound, Bruce Bochy is encouraged by his progress.

“He’s doing well,” Bochy said. “I can’t tell you the exact day when he’s going to start for us, but he’s making progress. He played long toss today and threw up to 90 feet. That’s good news. He’s feeling good. It’s day-to-day with him and where we’re going to take him.”
After pitching 11 innings over four starts this spring, Samardzija’s ERA soared to 10.64, thanks in part to the six home runs he allowed. Supposedly, he was working with a new grip on his curveball that also might have played a role in his rough spring numbers.
Samardzija underwent an MRI on March 22 that revealed a right pectoral strain. As a result, he was placed on the 10-day disabled list for the first time in his career.
