When the 49ers selected offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey with the No. 9 overall pick on Thursday, starting right tackle Trent Brown’s future with the team was immediately thrown into doubt. On Friday morning, that future ended, with multiple reports stating that San Francisco is trading Brown and the 143rd overall pick to the New England Patriots in exchange for the 95th overall pick.

Brown, 25, was selected in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the 49ers. He started 26 games over the past two seasons, including 10 last year at right tackle before being placed on injured reserve. Before the start of last season, Broncos All-Pro linebacker Von Miller called Brown the best offensive tackle in football.
“He’s the best right tackle in the National Football League,” Miller said. “And he may even be a top-five tackle, period, in the National Football League. There’s not another tackle who’s that tall, that big and can move the way he moves.”
