2018 has been quite the year for 44-year-old Terrell Owens, who will celebrate an incredible NFL career when he is inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August.
And his Canadian football career may just be starting.
According to TSN, the former 49ers receiver has invoked a 10-day clause with the Edmonton Eskimos, which own his negotiation rights, that requires the franchise to either offer him a deal or release him. They have until July 24 make the decision.

“Absolutely 100 percent,” Owens told TSN Football Insider Dave Naylor on Monday, adding that if they cannot come to terms with the Eskimos, there’s at least one other CFL team interested in signing him. “He still feels like he has some football years left in him. He just loves the game and wants to get back to playing whether it’s the CFL or NFL.”
Last month, Owens was filmed running 4.43 and 4.44-second 40-yard dash times, leaving some to wonder whether a return to the field could happen. He has not played in the NFL since 2010 with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he collected 72 receptions, 983 yards, and nine touchdowns in 14 games played.
Owens, always one to attract the cameras, has been all over the news throughout 2018. After two years of exclusion, the Pro Football Hall of Fame called Owens earlier this year to induct him as part of its eight-man 2018 class. But Owens will not attend his enshrinement in Canton, Ohio, becoming the first inductee to ever boycott the event. He plans to celebrate the achievement at the University of Chattanooga, Tennessee, which is his alma mater. Consequently, the Hall will not recognize Owens during its ceremonies.
Owens played the first eight seasons of his 15-year career with the 49ers. His 103.6 yards per game in 2000 led the NFL. He led the league in receiving touchdowns in 2001 and 2002. From 2000-2002, Owens strung together three consecutive seasons of at least 1,300 yards and 13 touchdowns with the 49ers. He spent the final seven years of his career with Philadelphia, Dallas, Buffalo, and Cincinnati.
