It’s been an interesting week for Jimmy Garoppolo.
Jimmy G turned heads last Friday, when he was spotted by TMZ out on a date with adult film star Kiara Mia. Though harmless, the story blew up, largely because it seemed at odds with Garoppolo’s squeaky clean persona.
Both Garoppolo and head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the media for the first time in weeks on Wednesday, and talked about the incident, each concluding that it should be treated as a learning experience.
“Life is different now,” Garoppolo said. “My life off the field, I have never really been big on being public with things, even social media, I am not out there a ton. My life is looked at differently. I am under a microscope. Like Kyle said, it is a good learning experience, just have to take it in stride. I mean, it is what it is.”

“I never heard anything about those articles,” Shanahan joked. “Jimmy came from a place where he saw a lot of people handle the spotlight and everything. So I think Jimmy does have an idea. I think everybody has an idea of how you should handle that spotlight, but not everyone is in that spotlight…
“I do think that is a very good example, and even though you know, sometimes you got to learn how under the microscope we all are. It’s not just the quarterback, it’s all players. The quarterback definitely gets more than everyone else, but I think it’s a good learning experience for him.”
