SAN FRANCISCO — Matt Cain, Ryan Vogelsong, and Brian Wilson unveiled their bronze Wall of Fame plaques fastened to the side of AT&T Park Saturday afternoon before a crowd of Giants fans, players, and dignitaries. In the process, they lent a degree of permanence to their accomplishments in a Giants uniform.
After the ceremony, the three players dished on what life after baseball has had in store for each of them thus far.
Vogelsong has been playing golf and working with minor leaguers in the Giants’ system.
“Lots of golf,” Vogelsong said. “Watching (my son) Ryder play Little League, and doing my part-time deal with the Giants in the minor leagues. Just came off of twelve days: five days in Richmond, four in Salem, and three in San Jose.
Cain also mentioned golf and spending time with his kids as two activities that fill his hours.
“The kids, golf …Yeah, they’re taking up tons of time, and just getting a little more acclimated to being a homeowner. Just enjoying life,” Cain said.
When asked if he could one day return to the game in some capacity, Cain was noncommittal.
“I couldn’t tell you right now,” Cain said. “It’d be wrong to say yes or no. I think time will tell … Baseball was such a big part of my life and will always be, it’s just figure out which journey I want to go down next.”
The always colorful Wilson had a variety of interests to share.
“Eating a lot of food,” Wilson said. “Eating a lot of fruit and veggies. Watching a lot of MTV The Challenge. It’s a great show, MTV might be the greatest station ever. I actually recently came out of golf retirement. Funny you guys have been talking about golf. Played Pelican Hill over in San Diego, great course. And I am a developer. So I’m developing homes.”
Wilson specified that his work as a home developer is focused near his home in Southern California.
