Well, that was quick. Following a report that Giants catcher Buster Posey will likely receive season-ending hip surgery, manager Bruce Bochy shed some light on the situation and Posey’s availability moving forward.
After the Giants lost to the New York Mets 6-3 Tuesday night, Bochy said Posey would return to the lineup tomorrow and at the moment, the team doesn’t feel Posey’s activity will cause himself further damage, according to Alex Pavlovic.
Bochy said Posey will play tomorrow, Giants are confident he can’t do further damage by playing for now. They’ll continue to talk about when to have surgery.

The injury is no surprise to anyone who has been following the Giants. It is a well-known fact that Posey has been dealing with a hip injury all season long, as evidenced by his absence from this year’s All-Star game. Bochy has tried to work in extra rest days for Posey to remove some of the stress on his hips by either sitting him or playing him at first base.
It is not yet clear when Posey will be receiving the surgery, but Posey knows it will come at some point, according to Pavlovic.
Posey said he’s known for months that he needs surgery. Will continue to discuss with staff on a daily basis, but for now he’ll play. He’s confident he’ll be ready for opening day next year.
