OAKLAND – It was a long, frustrating night for Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards. The shooting guard was pulled from the game after about three minutes with a bruised sternum and did not return until later in the second quarter. By that time, Stephen Curry had gone off for a 23-point, 5-for-6 three-point first quarter.
By the end of the night, despite scoring 122 points, the Wizards lost. How? Curry dropped 51 points and 11 threes, while Kevin Durant had 30 points on 13-of-18 shooting along with 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Draymond Green also had 11 assists. The Warriors dropped a season-high 144 points on the Wizards.
After the end of the first quarter, the Warriors were on pace to beat the Wizards 184-148. The final result was better, but not by much. So, how do you game plan for a player like Curry, who at his best, on a night like tonight, cannot be stopped? For Beal, it’s simple:
“Foul the shit out of him,” Beal said. “But even when we did that, he was still making them.”
That’s what Beal said postgame when asked about how to defend Curry, who was also 10-for-10 from the free throw line.
