OAKLAND – On a night that Stephen Curry scored a career-high 51 points at Oracle Arena, Curry said he was part of the “funniest thing” he’s ever experienced on a basketball court. At the end of the first quarter, with Curry 4-for-4 from three-point range, he had the ball inbounded to him and was implored by his teammates to do anything but pass the ball.
Curry came down and made a 29-foot three-pointer, his fifth of the quarter, leaving him 5-for-5. Before that, Curry made a 33-foot pull-up three. He finished the quarter with 23 points and finished the game with 11 made threes in total. He was just three points short of his career-high points total and two threes shy of tying his career-high (and the NBA record) for three-pointers made in a game with 13.
“The last three in the first quarter was probably the funniest thing I’ve ever experienced on the court, when two guys on my team are yelling at me by the time I was at the other free throw line like, ‘Don’t pass it, don’t pass it, you better shoot it,’ like all that type of stuff,” Curry said. “And I’m hearing that while I’m dribbling down and that’s kind of all the motivation you need just to launch it, and thankfully it went in.”
