Welcome to the Nick Mullens experience.

Nick Mullens was perfect on his first ever NFL drive Thursday night, going 3-for-3 while leading the 49ers on a 75-yard touchdown drive to open the game. Mullens capped off the first series by throwing a 25-yard touchdown pass to a wide open Pierre Garcon, taking advantage of a breakdown in the Raiders defense. The touchdown was Garcon’s first as a 49er.

It wasn’t a fluke. Mullens picked up right where he left off on the second drive, leading the 49ers 66 yards on 13 plays, capping it off with a four-yard strike to Kendrick Bourne.

According to ESPN, Mullens is the first player since Carson Wentz to throw a TD pass on the first drive of his career. Through two drives, Mullens is 9-for-11 for 103 yards with a quarterback rating of 145.3.

Mullens has not taken a game snap since the preseason. But he impressed throughout the exhibitions, starting by leading the 49ers on a late game-winning drive in the preseason opener. He finished the preseason with a 72.1 percent completion rate, despite throwing three interceptions to one touchdown.

Mullens got the start with C.J. Beathard still recovering from a right wrist injury.
