Klay Thompson denies he’s in a slump: ‘Aren’t we in first place?’

The numbers would suggest that Klay Thompson is going through a shooting slump through the first 35 games on the 2018-19 season. Thompson is posting his lowest field-goal percentage since 2012-13 (44 percent) and the worst 3-point percentage of his career (33.7 percent), while also attempting more shots than he ever has (18.7).

Still, Thompson told reporters he doesn’t believe he’s in a “slump.”

“I don’t think it’s a shooting slump,” Thompson said. “I really don’t. Like I said I don’t care.”

“What do you think it is?” a reporter asked

“I don’t know, what do you think it is? Aren’t we in first place?”

Reporter: “Yeah.”

“Exactly.”

“What is somebody going to tell me about my jump shot that I can’t fix?” Thompson continued. “Unless it’s Reggie Miller or Ray Allen, I don’t know who I’m supposed to listen to. Larry Bird? Steve Kerr. I’ll listen to Steve. Steve shot 45 percent.”

Whatever he wants to call it, Thompson struggled again in the Warriors’ 127-101 loss to the Lakers on Christmas day, scoring just five points while going 2-for-7 from the field.

Reggie Miller offered Thompson words of support via Twitter.
