After signing veteran outfielder Gerardo Parra to a minor-league deal earlier this week, the Giants are kicking the tires on another veteran outfielder as the Bryce Harper situation slowly plays out in the background.
The Giants are “talking” to center fielder Cameron Maybin as a possible right-handed platoon partner for projected starter Steven Duggar, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.
SF has been assessing the OF market for awhile, in need of options. They’ve been talking with Cameron Maybin, who would give SF a CF safety net and RHed balance to Steven Duggar. Maybin: 31 years old, highly respected as a teammate, played all 3 OF spots last year for MIA, SEA.

Maybin, 31, is a 12-year veteran who has bounced around between seven teams throughout his career. Maybin has only posted an OPS above .700 (considered average) once since 2011, but is considered an asset defensively, with six runs saved last season. Maybin also played all three outfield spots while splitting time between Miami and Seattle.
Farhan Zaidi has said he wants to add two veteran outfielders this offseason, and it would seem that Parra and Maybin fall into that category. As it currently stands, Parra will compete in spring training with Chris Shaw, Steven Duggar, and Austin Slater for the three outfield spots. Duggar is considered the favorite to win the job in center field.
