Five days ago, the Giants didn’t have a single veteran outfielder. Now they’re about to have three.
San Francisco is finalizing an agreement with OF Cameron Maybin, a 12-year veteran who will likely serve as the right-handed platoon partner for CF Steven Duggar, as first reported by Andrew Baggarly and Ken Rosenthal. Maybin will be brought on as a non-roster invitee.

Earlier this week, the Giants inked minor-league deals with veteran outfielders Gerardo Parra and Craig Gentry, though both are expected to be on the major league roster for opening day.
Maybin, 31, is a 12-year veteran who has bounced around between seven teams throughout his career. Maybin has only posted an OPS above .700 (considered average) once since 2011, but is considered an asset defensively, with six runs saved last season. Maybin also played all three outfield spots while splitting time between Miami and Seattle.
Farhan Zaidi said he wanted to add at least two veteran outfielders this offseason. As it currently stands, Parra, Maybin, and Gentry will compete in spring training with Duggar, Chris Shaw, Austin Slater, Mac Williamson, and Drew Ferguson for the three starting outfield spots. Duggar is considered the favorite to win the job in center field.
