For the last few years, with the Giants performing far below the standard they set in the first half of the decade, there has been speculation regarding manager Bruce Bochy and whether he would retire in the near future. Finally, the speculation has come to an end.
Bochy, 63, and entering his 25th year as a manager (12 with the San Diego Padres and now 13 with the Giants), told reporters this morning that this season would be his last.
“There’s been so many questions about it, and it’s not fair to Larry, or Farhan, myself, or the team, so get that out, put that behind us,” Bochy said. “In my mind, it’s time… It’s been an unbelievable ride. There’s so much I’m grateful for, with the players, the city, the fans.”
Bochy said he’ll stay in baseball and “do something,” adding that he began to seriously consider retirement following the conclusion of last year’s campaign:

Bochy also made it clear where his heart is.
Bochy said he’ll stay around the game, already has talked to Larry Baer about his future. Said, “I’m a Giant.”

“I’m a Giant,” Bochy said.
The man who led the Giants to three World Series titles in 2010, 2012 and 2014, will enter the year with 1,926 career wins as a manager, good for 11th all time. Every manager above him on that list is enshrined in the Hall of Fame.
