The San Francisco Giants will host the Paradise High School baseball team at Oracle Park this Saturday, March 16 at 4:00 p.m., gates open at 3:00 p.m., for their game against the Corning Union High School Cardinals. This free event is open to the public following the Dante Benedetti Baseball Classic which will feature St. Ignatius College Preparatory and Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory. Fans attending the Paradise High School game will receive a limited edition, co-branded Paradise Strong t-shirt while they last.
Last November’s Northern California Camp Fire, the deadliest wildfire in state history, almost completely destroyed the Town of Paradise. Paradise High School miraculously remained untouched by the flames but damaged athletic facilities remain unusable. With the extreme loss and devastation experienced by the community of Paradise, the student population at Paradise High School has been severely impacted and most of them displaced from their homes. For those students who participate in sports it has been a challenge to keep teams together and find places for games.
“The Giants are honored to host the Paradise High School baseball team and the community of Paradise at Oracle Park,” said Staci Slaughter, Giants executive vice president of communications. “We understand that these kids, their families and the entire community of Paradise are going through an exceedingly difficult time as they recover from this devastating fire. We hope that the game of baseball and this experience will help lift the spirits of everyone in Paradise as they rebuild.”
Paradise High School Athletic Director Anne Stearns, said, “This is a great opportunity for our athletes to focus on an amazing experience of playing on a major league field and focus on the good that can come from their loss. We are so fortunate to be able to have this wonderful day for our athletes.”
Transportation for both teams to and from Oracle Park has been donated by Compass Transportation.
