Stephen Curry names his top five NBA players of all time

Stephen Curry has engaged in the never-ending “top five of all-time” debate.

On Monday night, Curry hosted a screening for his new Facebook show, “Stephen vs. The Game” at Oakland’s 16th Street Station. The series, consisting of six episodes, premiers May 2. Curry answered questions about the project in front of a contingent of people, but the topics extended beyond television and into the perpetual debate of NBA preeminence.

Curry, who could very much be included in this conversation when it’s said and done, released his top-five players of all-time: Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, LeBron James, Shaquille O’Neal, and Magic Johnson. The question posed was his top five, not his starting five.

Jordan is a global inclusion on the list. James, who has seemingly several years left of his career, probably is, too. It was interesting that Curry included Chamberlain over Bill Russell, who dominated that matchup in the win-loss department. It’s notable that Curry included O’Neal, another physically dominant low-post force, over former teammate Kobe Bryant, whose perimeter game obviously has more similarities with Curry’s. Johnson is widely regarded as the top point guard of all-time, but Curry could supplant him with a strong close to his career.

Andre Iguodala has called Curry the second-best point guard ever. Below is Curry’s response, from last month:

Curry’s ratings unsurprisingly got noticed around the NBA landscape. O’Neal posted an Instagram calling Curry his “favorite player.”

Check back in a couple years, and we will see if Curry includes himself, similar to how James did in 2014.
