Klay Thompson is a man of wisdom. He’s never short of one-liners or iconic quotes. Tonight was no different. His series-defining quote from the first round was his revelation that he jumped into the Pacific Ocean before he erupted for 32 points in a 113-105 win.
Tonight, Thompson picked up the slack from Stephen Curry in the first half, when Curry went scoreless. Thompson had 21 first-half points, finishing with 27, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 2 blocks and 4 turnovers. He also played relentlessly tough defense on James Harden, who turned the ball over three times in the final 2:24. That, plus a prolific second half, and especially fourth quarter from Curry, who scored a career-high 23 in the quarter (33 in the game and second half) secured a massive road victory for the Warriors.
It was a series billed essentially as the title decider. While that’s not necessarily fair to any of the remaining teams in the playoffs, it’s more a credit to the Warriors and Rockets. Without Kevin Durant, this was a crushing blow to the Rockets and a massive thrill, even for a Warriors team that has pretty much seen it all.
While waiting in line for food after the game, Thompson said, “Salad is overrated after a win like that.”
