The Giants continue to make moves. A day after Andy Suarez was the second-straight Giants starter to be assailed by the recently-ignited bats of the Arizona Diamondbacks in a 10-4 loss, Suarez was sent back to the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats.
In four innings, Suarez allowed nine hits, nine runs (seven earned), three walks, one home run and secured two strikeouts. It was just his second start of the season after his season debut on May 20, in which he allowed three earned runs in six innings of work while walking four batters, striking out five, and being tagged for two home runs.
Suarez was switched for Sam Coonrod, who would be making his major league debut if he gets into the game today. Coonrod was initially a starting pitcher, but has been working out of the bullpen since 2018. Here is a picture of Coonrod:

He has an interesting stat line in 18 innings of relief this season with the River Cats. His ERA is 7.00, his WHIP is 1.944, his H/9 is 12.0 and his BB/9 is 5.50. The one positive is that he strikes out an inordinate amount of batters, boasting a 15.0 K/9 rate. He also has a career-high 1.5 HR/9 rate, making him fit in line with the MLB’s trend towards the three true outcomes (home run, walk, strikeout).
