After making a massive and stunning trade to acquire Russell Westbrook from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Chris Paul, two first-round picks and two pick swaps, the Daryl Morey-led Houston Rockets remain prowling on the NBA trade market. According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Rockets are looking to pry Andre Iguodala from the so-far stalwart Memphis Grizzlies.
But that may prove much easier said than done for the Rockets, who are no stranger to gutting themselves of future assets for the prospect of winning now. While the Rockets traded away their 2024- and 2026-first-round picks along with 2021 and 2025 pick swaps, they still own their first-round picks in 2020, 2022 and 2023. That’s significant, because if they expect to pry Iguodala from Memphis, a first-round pick may be the cost, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times. So far, the Grizzlies have refuted the notion they’ll buyout Iguodala, who obviously has massive value to any contender, even at age 35.
