After a day of trade deadline moves which saw the Giants ship off Drew Pomeranz, Ray Black, Mark Melancon, Sam Dyson and minor league pitcher Jacob Lopez, the Giants needed reinforcements. They traded for Scooter Gennett, a plug-and-play second baseman, but most of the rest of the players acquired are prospects, with the exception of reliever Dan Winkler.

They include: Mauricio Dubon, a 25-year-old middle infielder, Tristan Beck, a backend relieving prospect, Joe McCarthy, a 25-year-old outfielder hitting .196 in Triple-A,  Prelander Berroa,a 19-year-old pitching prospect from the Dominican Republic, Jaylin Davis, a 25-year-old right fielder drafted in the 24th round of the 2015 MLB draft who batted .331 in 41 Triple-A games, this season, and Kai-Wei Teng, a 20-year-old pitching prospect signed out of Taiwan.

With that in mind, the Giants brought four minor-league pitchers to their ongoing series against the Philadelphia Phillies on the taxi squad (although the name doesn’t really apply in the case of cross-country flights).

They sent Melvin Adon (2.60 ERA in 36 games with the Double-A Richmond Flying Squirrels who was clocked throwing 102 mph in spring training), Jandel Gustave (6.49 ERA in 29 games with the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats), Andy Suarez (5.46 ERA in 16 games with Sacramento) and Selman (1.35 ERA in 30 games with Sacramento) to Philadelphia.
