Was this Joe Panik’s last game as a Giant?

PHILADELPHIA — A full day removed from the trade deadline, when the Giants acquired what appears to be his replacement, Joe Panik has heard nothing.

No calls from Farhan Zaidi, Panik said. Nothing more from Bruce Bochy, who had pulled him aside Wednesday to tell him to take the next few days in stride, a day at a time.

When Panik dressed for Thursday’s 10-2 loss to the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, it was possible he was playing his final game as a Giant.

“No. I haven’t even…” Panik told KNBR, trailing off, after being asked if that thought had crossed his mind. “You just go out there and play baseball.”

He went out there and went 1-for-4 with a sixth-inning single. He started both games following the deadline, when the Giants picked up Scooter Gennett from the Reds, a lefty-hitting second baseman with more pop than Panik.

Panik, a World Series champion who’s played with the big-league Giants since 2014, still has an option left, but he’s accumulated enough time in the majors to reject being sent to the minors. With the Giants about to enter a roster squeeze as Gennett is expected to join the team in Colorado, a team decision on Panik is coming.

“That’s up to Farhan,” said the 28-year-old, who’s been with San Francisco his entire career. “That’s out of my control. I’m just going out there and playing.”
