Major League Baseball’s annual Players’ Weekend is coming up on Aug. 23-25, and the Giants have released the nicknames players will be wearing on the back of their uniforms.
Let’s get the disappointment out of the way first. Alex Dickerson’s uniform will read “Grandpa” on the back. We don’t know why, but no matter the reason, there’s really no excuse. Also, we don’t expect to hear any grandpa chants when Dickerson steps into the batter’s box.
Here’s the rest of the list.

Like last season, most of the nicknames aren’t all that interesting, and are just derivatives of their names. In the running for the best are Tony Watson (Tone Ranger), Brandon Crawford (DJ BC Raw), Stephen Vogt (I Believe — in reference to the “I believe in Stephen Vogt chant), Reyes Moronta (El Tibu), and Brandon Belt (Bob — don’t ask).
That’s pretty much it, unless you think “Yaz” is an extremely clever nickname. The teams will also wear special black and white uniforms during the weekend which you can check out here.
