Bruce Bochy will have his options. About a million of them.

The Giants recalled Sam Selman from Triple-A Sacramento before their game in Los Angeles on Friday night, making the Giants’ major league staff 17 men deep.

Strictly in the bullpen, Selman joins Fernando Abad, Shaun Anderson, Kyle Barraclough, Sam Coonrod, Jandel Gustave, Conner Menez, Tyler Rogers, Burch Smith, Will Smith, Andrew Suarez and Tony Watson. No pitcher should be overused, and the River Cats will be shorthanded for their playoffs. The Giants did bring in righty Ricardo Pinto and assigned him to Sacramento earlier Friday.

Selman, a lefty, will get his second chance, having debuted at 28 in August. He made four appearances, giving up three runs in four innings while striking out four.

Selman has dominated in Sacramento — especially impressive this year in the PCL — and hadn’t given up a run in his last six innings, striking out 12 in the span.
