As he’s wont to do, Kevin Durant caused a stir on Tuesday after an interview he did with the Wall Street Journal hit newsstands.
There were a number of interesting takeaways, including Durant describing how he felt like an outsider as a member of the Golden State Warriors.
“I came in there wanting to be part of a group, wanting to be part of a family, and definitely felt accepted,” Durant told the WSJ. “But I’ll never be one of those guys. I didn’t get drafted there… As time went on I started to realize I’m just different from the rest of the guys. It’s not a bad thing. Just my circumstances and how I came up in the league. And on top of that, the media always looked at it like KD and the Warriors. So it’s like nobody could get a full acceptance of me there.”
On Tuesday afternoon Dennis Rodman, once a member of a Chicago Bulls dynasty that is often compared to the Warriors’ recent run, said on ESPN that he was put off by KD’s comments.
“I think it’s very selfish of KD, seriously. I don’t care if he’s listening I really don’t care.” Rodman said on ESPN. “When you get the opportunity to play this game, especially at a high, high level. And especially when you have it this easy to go out there and perform. To make $40-45 million a year and literally don’t have to play a (full) season… I just don’t understand. I don’t understand why he would come out and say something like that.
“I mean, embrace it. … I enjoyed it. I didn’t care who was the leader. I didn’t care who was the leading force, who was this and this, I just wanted to be a part of it. I wanted to win. I wanted to impact the city, I wanted to make people happy.”
