The 49ers will have their third long-snapper in as many games when they take the field again next Monday night vs. the Browns.
After cutting long-snapper Colin Holba during the week, his replacement, Jon Condo, retired on Monday after an uneven showing in the 49ers’ 24-20 win over the Steelers on Sunday. The 38-year-old had been long-snapping in the NFL since 2005.
The long-snapping musical chairs stems from the 10-game suspension of primary long-snapper Kyle Nelson, who is scheduled to miss three more games until he is eligible to return. In the meantime, the 49ers have brought in another reinforcement, Garrison Sanborn, on the heels of Condo’s retirement, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic.
Per league source, #49ers to sign veteran longsnapper Garrison Sanborn to replace veteran longsnapper Jon Condo, who retired after one game. Sanborn, 34, has been snapping since 2009. He’s played for Bills & Buccaneers. #longsnapperintrigue

Here’s what Shanahan said last week regarding why the team moved on from Holba:
“There are very little details and stuff with timing and you want guys to be perfect every time. No, he wasn’t perfect, so we are just trying to see if we can get someone a little more consistent. He wasn’t bad though, either. We just thought we could make an upgrade.”
