Buster Posey, Bumgarner start off Bruce Bochy’s goodbye with a bang

The ones who brought Bruce Bochy here are trying to send him off in style.

First, Buster Posey had a gift waiting for his longtime manager. It took him all season to unwrap it.

As Bochy began his final week and homestand with the Giants, the catcher forever linked with him did something he couldn’t do: Make an impact at Oracle Park.

After Mike Yastrzemski walked leading off the bottom of the first Tuesday, Posey stroked a two-run home run off Colorado’s Jeff Hoffman, a 386-foot shot to left to put the Giants up, 2-1. It was Posey’s first homer all season at home, where his bat has gone to die.

Entering the at-bat, the 32-year-old was slashing .253/.303/.317 in San Francisco, with 12 doubles his only extra-base hits. It was his first dinger at home since June 19, 2018.

Next, it was Madison Bumgarner’s turn.

The starting pitcher stepped up to bat in the third and swatted one 369 feet to put the Giants up 3-1. It was Bumgarner’s second home run of the season and first at home since Sept. 3, 2017.

Amid the many festivities planned for Bochy, perhaps it’ll be the unplanned ones that mean the most.
