The 49ers are holding out hope, but much of their reinforcements likely will have to wait a week before they can help.
Before practicing Tuesday, coach Kyle Shanahan announced tackle Joe Staley would be limited and running backs Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert would miss the practice.
Shanahan said “there’s still a chance” Staley, out with a broken fibula suffered in Week 2, will suit up Thursday in Arizona. But it sounds as if it’s an outside chance.
“Without us having a full-speed practice, it’s going to be tough to simulate some stuff in this day and a half,” Shanahan said. “We’ll see how he feels.”
As for Breida, who was removed from Sunday’s game against Carolina after 19 snaps with an ankle injury, the coach said, “If we had to go today it wouldn’t be good.
“But staying optimistic on that. Hopefully he’ll be limited [Wednesday] and hopefully be ready to go.”
Mostert was not going to practice with a quad injury.
Right tackle Mike McGlinchey (knee), fullback Kyle Juszczyk (knee) and cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon (foot) were set to miss practice, with Nov. 11 against Seattle being a target return date.
